Chimney Sweeping Process

Our equipment, knowledge and expertise allow us to fully assess the safety of your chimney and determine whether it is safe to use.  We use a variety of sweeping techniques and methods to remove the different deposits inside the chimney depending on how the chimney is constructed so that it does not get damaged during the sweep.

Once your chimney has been fully inspected & swept, it is inspected again using an integrity test before we warm the flue and carry out a smoke test on the appliance and flue system. Checks on your Carbon Monoxide alarm completes the sweeping process. Providing your chimney passes all these safety tests, you will be issued with an official safety certificate which you can then use for insurance purposes.

Your sweep will be carried out in a clean & efficient way, without causing any mess from soot or dust as protective sheeting is used to retain the soot. A powerful HEPA rated industrial vacuum cleaner is used to suck away the soot and can extract tiny particles from the air to make sure your home remains clean and soot free.

The Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps recommend annual sweeping and inspection for all chimneys and that wood or coal burners which are used frequently are swept twice during the burning season. Without regular cleaning, soot can build up within the flue – a major cause of chimney fires. If left in place, the soot from your open fire or stove can cause damage to the metal flue lining which can reduce the extraction capabilities of your chimney and allow potential hazardous gases and fumes to enter into your home.

CCTV camera equipment is available on all sweeps should it be needed.  CCTV is used to undertake a full inner chimney inspection, which can clearly determine the cause and location of any specific complication. Typical difficulties are blockages, corroded liners or cracked chimneys and even a bird nest!
