Sweeping

1.1 The practice of chimney sweeping shall be deemed to be the passing of an adequate sized and strength brush, appropriate diameter of the chimney and flue used, through the complete length of the chimney. The brush may be put through by rods, viper and star, a line and weights, or rotary sweeping equipment.

1.2 The chimney sweep will ensure that they carry a sufficient amount of rods/line and weights or viper to ensure that the brush will pass the length of the chimney or flue completely.

1.3 Chimneys will be swept thoroughly with a brush or cleaning implement that is suitable to remove the products of combustion within the flue.

1.4 Before any sweeping commences the sweep will ensure the immediate floor area and fireplace opening/appliance and/or any access points will be protected using suitable sealing methods, such as sheeting, to keep mess to an absolute minimum before and during the process.

1.5 All problems or faults found during the sweeping shall be made known to the person whom the sweeping contract is made. All such problems and faults relating to the chimney or appliance shall be put in writing.

1.6 All chimney sweeps will endeavour to carry out visual inspections of chimney stacks and flue terminations prior to the cleaning of such flues and appliances.

1.7 All Chimney sweeps must check there is adequate ventilation and carbon monoxide alarma in all rooms containing flues and appliances they have worked on, as defined in the Current Building Regulations (Document J)

1.8 The chimney sweep will not undertake work on any chimney or appliance that is deemed unsafe or dangerous (in accordance with current Health and Safety at Work Act)

1.9 All chimney sweeps will hold adequate insurance for work that they undertake.

Bookings

2.1 At the time of booking the customer will be given suggested dates and times which are mutually convenient. The booking will be confirmed once name, address and contact details recorded.

2.2 Customers details will be held electronically on a secure database system and will not be shared by any third party unless previously agreed by the customer.

2.3 Customers will be informed of approximate costs at the time of booking upon request.

2.4 If the customer fails to be present at the agreed time and date of the sweep this will result in a cancellation fee of 50% of the original sweeping cost.

2.5 If the customer fails to cancel the booking within 24 hours of the agreed sweep by email ([email protected]) or speaking directly to the office will result in a cancellation fee of 50% of the original cost.

Payments

4.1 Payment by the customer can be made using cash, cheque, Bacs or card payment.

4.2 Payment total for the sweeping services will be clearly stated on the certificate of chimney sweeping.

4.3 The customer will sign the certificate of chimney sweeping, the sweeping contract is made thus confirming payment owed.

4.4 Monies are required within 7 working days of the sweeping contract by the agreed payment method.

4.5 Failure to pay within 30 days of the sweeping contract will result in a late payment charge of 8% and will be applied on a monthly basis until payment is made in full.
